Fall 2009 Upper Mid-West Regional Meeting Report

E-mail Print PDF
Hey how about a meeting!!!

That is what I was asked when we visited Bill Weitzel at his shop in Cincinnati. I thought sure why not it would be great to have the guys over for a while. No date set and plenty of time to tell Mrs. McGolf of the plans I think I am safe. Then the short term memory loss kicks in. About a month ago Bob Dodds calls and said when are we have the meeting. Then the long term memory recall hits me like a ton of bricks. Uhhhhhhhh I say, how bout October. Great Bob tells me and I have to break the news to the other half about the meeting I promised. Robin takes the news in stride and proceeds to give me a honey do list to be completed prior to the meeting. Guys if your wife is involved in this business run don’t walk and give her a big kiss for putting up with you.

We had a great turn out and surprisingly most of the guys arrived the night before. Most everybody came to the shop and we waited for closing time. Everybody got checked in and to the local steak house we went. I hope every body had a good meal. My prime Rib was good and company was even better.

We started the meeting with Mike Stephens of Zelocity. Mike presented the new upgrade of the Zelocity Pure Launch and the new product called the tracker. He explained the delays in the new upgrade and how the company has created a bunch of ways to help off set the cost of the upgrade. If interested in the upgrade I would call Sean or Mike and ask them about the other opportunities.

The new tracker is a unit that consists of three radar pods and is considered a 3 dimensional monitor. This reduces the length needed for ball flight monitoring, some great news for folks that do fittings indoors. If you like to do short game fittings, this unit will be a must.

Mike was followed by Jeff Summit of Hireko Golf. Jeff has always been a friend to the Clubmaker. He visited the golf shop even on his anniversary. This is a brave man. According to Jeff, Hireko is taking a new direction. They are leaving the world of the clone (perceived clones) and entering into original designs. I really didn’t know how big Hireko is until talking with Jeff. Hireko has a few interesting items. First is a fitting system that may have merit. I’ll look it a bit further. Additionally, Hireko has aroma grips for women and the newer models looked to have some real benefits to golfers and at a price point that will allow us as Clubmakers to make some $$$ in the process. Give them a look.

After Mike and Jeff were done we set up the Zelocity and hit some of Jeff’s products. It seemed like the unit Mike had works right on and the guys were happy with the product Jeff brought to test. We had a raffle that included prizes from Aldila, UST, SK Fiber, Hireko and Golf Pride. My buddy Jim, the luckiest guy on earth, Ogier walked away with the Aldila VOODOO.

Golf after the meeting was a maybe, but four stalwart individuals got to enjoy a very vacant Donald Ross course. Myself, Ryan Blevin, Ray T-ski, and Tony K-ski. I say ski because Tomaszewski and Kovaleski are a mouth full. The course was in great shape except for the newly aerated greens. It took a sledge hammer to make the ball roll. I thoroughly enjoyed their company and would be proud to golf with them again. When Rays’ shoulder is healed I expect him to give Ryan a run for distance king.

All in all, the presentations were informative, everyone walked away with a Golf Pride display, a shaft and other goodies. We enjoyed great steak the night before and some really great golf after the meeting.

Thanks everyone for attending,
